Venur is a small town on the banks of Gurupur River. Once Venur was a great seat of Jainism. The main attraction of Venur is 38 ft high monolithic statue of Bahubali, was erected by the Jain ruler Timmanna IV Ajila in the year 1604. This statue was sculpted by Amarashilpi Janakacharya. Venur also has eight basadis and the ruins of the Mahadeva Temple.
